Introducing the newest member to our band.... Stanley! 🦌

The stags head is the symbol of the McKenzie clan.

For St Andrews Caledonian Pipe Band, this connection runs deeper than symbolism alone. We proudly wear the McKenzie tartan in honour of our founding Pipe Major, Bob McKenzie.

You can read more about the McKenzie connection from Bob's daughter Margaret East who is still active in many aspects of the band today. https://www.sacpb.net/pages/the-mckenzie-connection

The stag’s head has long been a powerful symbol of the McKenzie clan. Often associated with leadership and resilience. It represents strength, independence, and a deep connection to the rugged Scottish Highlands. This new modern look is fitting within the culture of our band as we work towards player development, new music and teaching of many new learners of pipes and drums for the Tasmanian pipe band scene.

As Stanley takes his place at the heart of the band with our bass drummer Dave Crack who fittingly has been elected as both Drum Sergeant and President of the band this year, the bass drum now carries not only tradition, but the pride and history of our band with every tune we perform.

Adopting the stag’s head for our bass drum is both a tribute to that heritage of our roots and a reflection of our identity as a band.

Stanley will have his first outing at our 2026 Celtic Fusion concert.
